Naval servants - the poll

Just for fun, I'm making a poll. I've never made a poll here, so let's see if it works. See the discussion here to form an educated answer or to add to the discussion! (Really I don't care very much at all. But we should have them all be the same, I think. Apart from Cartwright who can never be the same.)

Anyone can give an educated opinion! If you want to give an uneducated vote or don't have an opinion (or you already voted while logged in under another name), there's a choice for you too.

(Erm, I would probably do my civic duty and vote in more elections if there was a "I don't know but I just wanted to vote" option.)

I think it was said somewhere that there are 14 boys - which is plenty for each officer and warrant officer to have his own (bearing in mind that the Captain, Marine officer and surgeon don't have a ship's boy in the role). And as Deverel is new aboard, he doesn't have a servant of his own yet, unlike the others.

Keep the discussion part over there so it doesn't get more confusing!

Leat will not have a servant. He will beg his clothes to be laundered from the steward and his mate, any mending he shall do himself and he will only have a servant to stand behind him at a formal dinner.

Oh, and PS, that means you can summon servants to haul Deverel into his cabin and undress him and such.

I wouldn't bother. Just dump him in his cot and remove his boots.

Oh, you edited. I thought you meant "I wouldn't bother the servants to take care of Deverel." Because yes, maintaining the servants' comfort and peace is more important than taking care of the third lieutenant. He can stay there for the rest of the night.
