Re: Hello to our newest players
Welcome to the game, hope you enjoy it! Even if you are going to play one of those awful Englishmen!

Well, technically, I'm not sure he's born English. He could be anything. But he grew up in English culture.

Hello, aw ye banks and braes!
I am a flamboyant wee Englishman who will be playing a flamboyant auld Scot, hence me badly affectated Scotch prose. I hae plenty o' RP experience, mainly from Star Trek sites (but 'at was no wee time ago) and I hae a passion for military history (and fantasy). Ah'm hoping t' start an AU Fantasy/First Worl' War RP in t'near future. But enough aboot that - I love the Sharpe TV series and 'Master and Commander' is one o' my favourite movies. But t' me shame, I hae never read either of the book series! I aim to rectify this oversight in t' future, anna hope tha' you lot can be of fine assistance to me in that regard - and tha' you don't mind tha' i'm not too widely-read!
T'is braw indee' tae meit ye aw,

Re: Hello to our newest players
For the love of all that's holy, do not start reading the Sharpe series with Siege! I did and didn't understand a word. Chronologically, the series starts with Tiger but rifles or Eagle are also good starting points (the latter is the first book written). Unfortunately, Munro doesn't crop up in the books - Hogan is there right through.
I'm English, myself, and all my characters are also English, though half of them are at sea. I am also the player behind Sharpe himself, though he's not been played for a little while now.
JARETH! Aaahhh...
Welcome to StC, both of you!

Bootwhiskers, if I recall correctly, your character dresses in civilian clothes during his missions as exploring officer?

Re: Hello to our newest players
Sometimes, yes. In the series Munroe always seemed to wear the standard civilian 'gentleman at leisure' attire when he was behind enemy lines - exactly like Nairn had done before him. Sort of the same outfit as Doctor Maturin. But Munroe in full tartan is just too good to pass up on! And the fellow he's partly based upon (Colquhoun Grant, Wellington's real spymaster) "never thought of himself as a spy, and always rode in full uniform, often behind enemy lines" - to quote Wikipedia. Several other exploring officers in the series wear full uniform when they're off exploring - e.g. Major Pyecroft.
I plan to portray a mixture. When he's not in camp, there's a roughly 50% chance as to whether he'll be wearing his uniform, or a duster-coat and sombrero

Welcome to the game, though as one of those who plays a French character I must warn you that we do shoot spies. Nothing personal mind you. Vive le'Empereur!

Re: Hello to our newest players
I feel a bit rude not having posted in here until now - so I figured I ought to say hello (took me long enough?)
So I'm Nat - quite possibly the least knowledgeable person here, as I came to this place knowing absolutely nothing about the era (I'm usually found on WWII era forums). So forgive me my fails, I'm playing catch-up most of the time!

Re: Hello to our newest players
Honestly, good WWII forums are like hen's teeth. There was a spate of them about three years ago, but since then they've all dried up
However, you'll be the first to know
and thankyou ^^

Just found the site, looked interesting so I've decided to join. So I thought I'd stop-by here first and say 'hello' before I start work on my app. Also, I do have previous RP experience.

Welcome! :-D I'm Russell (creatively using my character's name).
Re: Hello to our newest players
Well, you see... I'm not quite sure yet, myself. Either a French soldier, or the son a Frenchman who took his family to England with him during the Revolution.Henry Fraser wrote:Am I right in my observation that you have a French character?
And again, thanks for all the welcomes everyone!
Edit: I've decided to make him a Frenchman in the British army.
