late in the day, 22nd May, Surgeon's tent

He forces himself not to make a sound biting his tongue as the surgeon probes and scraps at the wound his hands clenched into fists, mentally cursing the man for the agony he is causing.

The surgeon glanced only briefly at the lieutenant, before averting his gaze again to the task. He offered a sip from a small glassy container, so small that it did barely to water one's lips. The surgeons of the navy would have called it laudanum, and it would be certain atleast to ease some of the pain. Had Cathcart not been an officer, he would almost certainly not have gotten anything.

"There sir. Almost done." The surgeon commented as he called to his assistant to hold back the cloth and prepare a bandage that he could tighten over the wound. "I will request that you keep of this leg and have rest." He looked at the man. "It is a deep cut, but..it should be well." He said some more, and then stood to the side.

He downed the offered glass welcoming anything that might help dull the pain, he occasionally looked down to watch the surgeon before once more closing his eyes.

"I will do my best, but there is a war on after all, wot?"

"Yes, sir. It is indeed. " The surgeon glanced at Cathcart and then nodded to his assistant. "Sir, if you would not wish that we damage your trousers worse than they are.." Not like it to ask a private that. " I would request that you have them lower. " It needed no further explanation that the surgeon only wished to dress the wound." Else tear the pantleg open and render the trousers possibly useless. He assumed that they might serve only for terrain work anyway or not even there. Officers could be fickle, and a sewn up hole, well, it marred the trouser worse.

he sighs and nods "very well then, give me a moment?" he askes before slowly sitting up reaching down he would loosen his breaches and slowly inch the rakishly tight breaches down far enough for the surgeon to bandage him not with out a wince or two of pain.

The man nodded and went back to his work, glancing at the wound and making again sure that it had no fabric left in it, or dirt. Once satisfied that any flesh that had been already ready to die was removed enough that the wound could heal. "There." He murmured as he tightened the bandage and left the assistant to finish up.

"Have you been hit anywhere else, sir?"

"thank god no, you only need to probe my damn leg!" he claims before trying to pull his breaches back up wincing in pain as he pulls them over his bandaged leg.

"Careful, sir." The surgeon spoke and helped move the fabric carefully over the bandaged leg. "Return in a day to change the dressings. I would suggest that you were something less form fitting if you are able." He then nodded his assistant moving to help Cathcart up.

He leaned on one of the assistants as he is helped up and then limps off towards the door, with the intention of making his way back to his regiment where ever they might be unless stopped.
