Re: Writing home; 7th May
Thompson sighed and headed back down to get his red jacket and crossbelts on, and find his mug. He didn't begrudge the lad a tot, and had been given something of infinitely more value - he could sign his name. And if you couldn't be proud of that, what could you be proud of?

Re: Writing home; 7th May
There was little that De Guarde needed to do himself to get ready. His hair was neatly tied, and he placed a hand against the queue. There were a few sailors that caught sight of the way his hair had been bound. He acted as if to ignore all of them, though with the corner of his eye he observed one here and there. Not too many thought about it for long, and soon it was an accepted fact by those who did look, that the queue was as it was.
He slipped past the many sailors, some preparing to go, others still some at work. Few were caught in conversation and turned silent as he passed just to begin it again once he was further away. He had to go about another sailor not keen to step out of his way. It brought on an argument, which ended in glares. And a swifter walk on De Guarde's side. If only Chase were about to be used to cool any of the men willing to do more but be silent.
With a sigh he reached Chase's chest ,well his and Chase's now, and opened it pushing to the side some of the other man's clothes, topped with his own. He stashed his paper, plugged the ink bottle well so that it would not by accident open, and placed both along with the quill into a smaller bag, which then was placed to lay at the bottom of the chest. Safe there, a lot safer at least. He ignored the personals of his 'teacher' and just tugged and rolled the rest of the cloth, slops and shirts, into place.
With the chest closed again he checked his fingers for ink stains and then turned about listening to see what time it was. He didn't feel at ease and had a glare for each sailor much like a small puppy growling at the cows and horses, having them know to stay away because he was really a large dog ready to bite. Perhaps none of them felt intimidated, and a few felt amused while others just brushed him from their thoughts, but it felt calming to the boy. The only reason he had done it too. The feeling.
