Description:
Standing slightly shorter than the average height, Nat has a slight, wiry build. He is green-eyed with light brown hair and a nearly perpetual grin.

Cheerful and easygoing by nature, Nathaniel tends to avoid taking things seriously. He is not easily provoked and avoids physical conflict whenever possible.

Background:
Nathaniel was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts to John and Nancy Kelly. Being the eldest, Nat was apprenticed to his father, a shipwright, as soon as was proper and expected to carry on the trade. Though he liked the work well enough, Nat found the prospect of a sedentary life unappealing and when, at the age of 14, the opportunity to run away to sea presented itself, he took it, signing on to a whaler, Sea Fox, bound for the Indian Ocean.

Aboard Sea Fox, Nat quickly learned that a life at sea was not the rollicking adventure he had been led to believe, but he took to it nonetheless. He served aboard her for five years and would likely have continued to do so, but a storm off the Cape of Good Hope nearly did the old ship in and, though she managed to limp home, her owner was not willing to risk financing any further ventures in her.

After Sea Fox, Nathaniel served on two more whaling vessels before he came to find himself in the British navy. His last ship, Good Return docked in London where it was boarded and several of the crew (of whom Nat was one) pressed as British deserters. Nat was fated to serve aboard HMS Hector for the next two years until the ship was decommissioned, at which point he thought himself free; however before he could make good on the chance, he was pressed onto another naval vessel, HMS Terpsichore where he has served since that time.
