Character Info:
Canon/Original: Original
First Name(s): Jacob
Surname: Chase
Nicknames: Cob
Age: Twenty-three
Sex: Male
Place of Birth: Portscatho, Cornwall
Occupation: Able Seaman
Family: None
Description: The Cornishman has the benefit of roughly three inches' additional height over the average man. This, when combined with his lean frame, gives him a vaguely stick-like appearance. Cob's long, somewhat gangly, limbs only help increase that appearance. He is not without strength however, though obviously not in the brutish, brawny way. His is a wiry sort of strength, with his muscles being lean and compact. There is a definite sense of pride and purpose in the way Cob walks and moves, for he is part of the captain's boat-crew and is exceptionally proud of that.
Cob owns only two sets of clothing. His typical work attire consists of loose white canvas trousers, a loose grey-checked linen shirt, long black neck-cloth, and a dark blue short-waisted jacket. His shore-going rig is a better-kept version of his working uniform and includes a red-checked shirt, white duck trousers, and a clean grey neck-cloth. When assembled with the rest of the captain's boat-crew, he swaps his grey-checked shirt for blue and dons a black tarpaulin hat.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
Strengths
Background: Jacob Chase first went to sea at the impressionable age of eleven. His first ship was a sloop, Hazard, in which he served only a year before being taken off, along with several others, to bring Raven brig up to full complement. He served in Raven until she was paid off in 1804, whereupon he spent several months beached before volunteering to join Vigilant, then in Portsmouth for a brief refit.
His time in Vigilant, a third-rate, was largely spent in the Mediterranean, alternately escorting convoys and patrolling. It was just shy of five years since joining her when Chase was beached again, after falling ill with fever. On his recovery, he was sent to join Terpsichore frigate, which was a stroke of good fortune.
The alternative of being posted to another line-of-battle ship did not appeal to him. Terpsichore is a great adjustment for Chase, after serving nearly five years in Vigilant, but the closer confines of the frigate's lower deck reminded him loosely of his years in sloops.
Anything Else: Nope
