17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
Since the Review and after changing into his stable's clothing Timothy had gone to start with his punishment at his earliest convenience. The later was quite as soon as they have returned, and the horses were let to graze, while the stables remained empty. There was a slight irony that he was to do the job, when they would leave the very same stables a day later and so wouldn't need for them to be in excellent state. But no less, an order was an order and so, with Herrero left with the 'herd' he'd begun with the first of the many.
Though his leg felt near fully well, he still kept weight most on the other which was just as well with the shoveling out the filth and the spoiled hay. There were some small birds flying about, landing in their small nests that they've placed at the beams of the house, and then flying off again to find their feed. The smell wasn't most pleasant, but it wasn't something worth complaining really.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
RObert was blessed- or cursed- with only a small list of people he had to take care of, and as such was at a bit of a loss.
However his interest in the fate of Willoughby, both in the sense of that blasted leg and a horse and weapon, ahd led him to wonder in the direction of the stables.
THey were hardly hard to find, being in need of the clean.
Of course, he was liable to get hungry, too, and he guessed there'd be a bird or cat hanging about which he might be able to get, if he didn't become more interested in observing them.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
He'd loaded some hay in a small two wheel cart that could fit easily inbetween the beams, and once full enough had pulled it out in the open, where a heap of the filth had already been waiting to have more added to it. The day had turned to be warmer by the hour, and it seemed that atleast that day there wouldn't be any rain to worry about. He wiped his brow with one hand, wiping off it some sweat and adjusting his cap that replaced the kind used while riding on the march.
The shovel had clattered from the heap and he cursed, though rather politely. He'd pulled the cart a few steps closer, then began lowering it, so that he could go and fetch the shovel.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
Rob loosened his shoulders as he walked, pleased by the good weather they were still enjoying. THe squek of a cart made him squint towards the door of the stables, spying the figure heaving round loads of muck.
Grinning to himself he changed his heading, straight towards the door of the stable. If the noise was anything to go by, he'd found the answers to both his quests, and he looked up in time to see a sparrow squeeze itself in to it's nest. Too small on it's own, but maybe there were other birds, or maybe he'd find something else and just watch these ones.
"g'day, laddie. Hard at work, I see." Nothing like a jovial call to let someone know you were coming- he didn't think it'd be appreciated if he just snuck up on the boy.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
Timothy looked up from his cart and smiled, lifting his hand to wave at the newcomer. He'd propped the shovel against the side of it for a moment. "Sir, do you look for someone?" He asked, glad though in part intimidated to see the doctor.
It was one man that could have generals bow under their wrath.. well it was so thought, he wasn't quite sure if it were ever to happen.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
"Hmm?" Rob looked about him again, "Nay, laddie." He smiled, a little distracted now by the sparrows. No. He wouldn't eat them...much more interesting to watch them nip in and out through that tiny gap.
"Well..Having little else ter do, I thought I'd better check up on me patients."
It was the truth and an explanation and an apology all rolled into one, and probably more than he would have given some. "How is t'leg?" he gestured towards it, resolving to stay for long enough to watch willoughby make several trips of this muck.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
"It feels quite well, sir. Been pulling the cart as it, and it hadn't caused me too much trouble." He smiled and began shoveling what was on it, onto the heap to his left. "Have you any patients here,.. that is, other than me?" He asked conversationally, while he'd hefted another dirty load of horse dung mixed with old straw.
Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
He leaned against the wall of the stable, folding his arms and propping up one foot absently. "Och, I'm not too busy, laddie."
He eyed the stance, unwilling to beleive just the words he was hearing. "Not too many of ye, one or two which I will be sending off soon enough- they been a getting in t'way of wagon wheels and t'like."
He wasn't sure how much his appearance would be tolerated and certainly didn't want to push it on someone, so was keeping his own answers short.
"tIs good not ter have a full load." he added, smiling.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
"The emptier it is, the more times I need to come back and forth with it." He answered with a slight smile, hefting another of the shovels full to the heap.
"How were those mushrooms?" He asked remembering their meeting on the march , which felt a rather long time ago. He'd shifted his weight a little. Though he might not have needed it, he did still keep his weight lighter on the formerly injured leg.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
"Oh, I was talking more about me own wagon." he looked down, sorry for the confusion he may have caused, "Though with a smaller load, twould be easier on yer arms."
He thought back to the mushrooms, not that long ago, but not too recently, either, with all that had been going on. "They were tasty, thankee. As ye can tell, t'one's I ate weren't t'poisonous toadstalls." He grinned, pleased he'd managed to get that right, at least.

"I'm quite sure they were not, else I would not have been talking with you right now." He looked rather glad that the cart had been at last emptied and began turning it about, to get it to the next of the stalls, filled with the filth.
"Will you need to see my ankle, or is that enough?" He asked, a swallow flying close by of the two men, and veering a sharp left and up towards one of the nests.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
Rob was distracted by the swallow, stepping a couple paces fowards and craning his neck. He answered absently, "well, i would like ter keep an eye on it fer a couple more turns of yer barrow, if that willna get me inter any trouble."
It had disappeared now, entering the same hole as the sparrow had earlier. Was it a long corridor, leading to plenty of nests, or a short one? he was sorely tempted to go poking around up there, instead.

"I doubt that it would, being that you are a surgeon and your advice may well be heeded, for your wrath is something no man in his decisive moment would delight to feel." He glanced at the doctor and followed his gaze to the swallow's nest.
"I see you have come to see a different kind of 'patient' as well, is it sir?" He asked sounding rather amused.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
Rob frowned at the first comment, unsure whether to take it as a compliment or not. He hadn't been watching the speaker and had no idea either way. "I wouldna wish ter be a problem." he repeated, though softly as he attention was once again taken up by the hole which had seen both the swallow and the sparrow disappear.
"Ay, there was a sparrow in there afore. I didn't ken they were so fond of each other." He turned back round to check there wasn't any approaching hordes of people about to tell him he had a new patient, eyes alight with his new discovery.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
"You aren't, sir. Much more a solution to the problems that us soldiers may have. In more ways than one." He smiled, meaning it, for Sinclair had been some pleasant company, a fine cook and perhaps a man who had given work, but only once asked for it.
"You may enjoy their sights for as long as you wish, there won't be any of our men, having you go." Which was quite true, though he'd misunderstood Sinclair's glance for one of worry about his welcome there rather than his duty.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
He smiled gratefully, "THankee, laddie. Though ye may regret it later."
He considered the height of the hole. It really was too far up for him to be seeing easily, without getting a crick in his neck. And he wasn't about ot do that, when he could surely just as easily lie down and watch the procession.
"D'ye ken if there be a ladder inside there?"

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
"There should be one." A strange fellow, the doctor, looking at birds as if they were of some great importance. "Right at the back, the door opposite the last of the stalls." He offered helpfully, then halting the cart and lifting the shovel he added. "I can bring it to you, if you'd like, sir?"
Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
Rob waved away the offer briskly, "Nay laddie. Ye've got a bad leg, still. And" he rested his eyes on teh empty barrow, "a job ter do. I can carry it, nay problems."
He moved inside, blinking in the light and treading along to find the appropriate door. Plenty of goods there, and one ladder, just tall enough to be a pain to move. He shouldered it and backed out again.

"If you need any help sir, do give me a shout." Bad leg or not, though he considered it quite well himself, he would've helped a surgeon who's well being was in benefit of many, whereas a trooper's was mostly in benefit of himself and as an additional number to those who might fall.
He scraped the sodden hay and dung into one place and then hefted it neatly onto the cart.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
"Don't worry." Rob grunted the assurance over his shoulder as he emerged once again to navigate to a point slightly further away from the door to where he'd been standing. "T'only help I'm likely ter ask ye for is ter get me back ter me wagon, if I should fall off this."
he firmly righted it against the wall, settling it far enough out that it wouldn't be likely to fall over. Of course, as was usually the case, there was a clear five feet between the top of the lader and the roof. No matter. he could easily climb that distance himself.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
"I'll hope that not to be the case , sir. It is not common to have a surgeon in need of a surgeon." He grinned, and took another shovel full of filth to drop it on the slowly growing pile. It did stink a little and it was by no means an easy kind of work, yet there was no use nor reason to complain. He'd gotten what he had been deserving and could only find it to be thankful it had not transpired to be worse.
"May I inquire why such a great interest in swallows and sparrows, sir?" He asked, his voice a tad strained, though it quickly lost the tension, as his shovel lost it's weight.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
Pausing in his readying himself to scramble the last wee distance, rob twisted round and called down, "Tis something ter do, at t'least...and I canna remember seeing them so close ter each other afore."
He turned back and reached, grunting as he pulled himself up and sat on the edge, feeling aburdly like a small boy again, "aNd as fer wishing fer another surgeon- we're just as likely ter have an accident as anyone else, ay?"

"Nah, you do the healing, not the harming yourselves." He laughed softly and turned back to his cart and with it the rather less pleasant and less inviting a pile. He shook his head, with a light chuckle still.
"Might take a young chick with you, sir, might bring it up into a swallow or sparrow that may follow you all about." He sounded amused at the thought, though expected it not to be a possible thing. Those tiny little creatures were wild and so they would always remain.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
"A sparrow mebbe. But ne'er a swallow, ter raise it fer a few months and then ter see it go."
He'd done that as a lad, of course, and various other creatures as well, but the trouble of raising a sparrow seemed too much.
"Tell ye what." he had to hold back a laugh at his thought, "I'll let ye feed it, fer t'first two weeks."
He retracted his legs, lying front down and sicking his head over the side, keeping an eye on the goings on underneath him.

Re: 17th May - After Review - Cleaning out
"You let me feed it and it might decide not to stick with us even that long." He chuckled, though not completely averse to the suggestion. "I would wonder if you could find me a raven of a kind then, it would be a rather eerie a thought to see such a bird fly to a man."
He grinned though for he'd thought a hawk or a falcon might've been an even finer a choice, for they could catch rabbits for him, avoiding the need for a rifle or aim.
"What types of birds have you had before... for it feels that you have raised more than one, and not just observed them. Am I right?"
