More is known about Halley, where he hails from, with young Oates joining in, all while the Tars eat. The ships send their boats and landing parties. Oxley is scolded, but it might not be the same Oxley! Oxley is just fidgeting too much. Even Quinn thinks so.
A man is shot, De Guarde takes his oar. Captain's boat reaches the shore, Bolitho's out and calling to the others.

The crew is piped on deck and the provosts demand the guilty parties come forward. After some hesitation, Chase steps forward to turn himself in. Taylor, Dyer, and Preddie reluctantly follow suit. Friday, 26th May
Middle Watch - larboard
Morning Watch - starboard (during this also up hammocks)
Midshipman Chandos alerts a fuzzy-headed Lieutenant Bush to the approach of a strange woman on a barge. On the messdeck, Andrew Shepherd fetches De Guarde aft to get him ready for temporary duty as drummer. Once De Guarde is dressed and on deck, Andrew Shepherd slips off below and changes into seaman's slops, to stand in as De Guarde with the sailors. Topside, the woman on the barge professes to be delivering wine, but falls overboard after being rebuffed by Terpsichore's officers. She is rescued by the guardboat and brought aboard. Perry admits that the woman is his wife, who has brought a Bible for him. He produces a writ of protection, declaring him an American citizen and therefore safe from impressment, but Bush reminds him that he volunteered to serve willingly. Throughout all this, De Guarde stands on deck dressed as a Marine drummer, while Oxley, Allen and a couple of sailors discreetly chat with him.
Captain Bolitho summons Lieutenants Bush, Leat, and Cartwright to the great cabin to find out how Perry's wife had known which ship was theirs.
Perry is taken below and locked in irons, to await his punishment.
