Does anyone know how would an officer go about resigning his commission?

You don't resign it, you sell it (back to the Government for its official value, but in fact, to someone who wanted to buy that rank in that regiment, and would probably pay more than the official value for it, handled through the regimental agent). I am not sure, but it seems to have been called 'selling out'.

First, though, you should speak to your commanding officer, since he will be involved in organizing it. You'll probably be allowed leave while the transaction goes through - things like that take time, and it wouldn't do for you to be still acting as Captain when someone else has already bought your commission. For you, that will be the colonel of your regiment for the organisation, and Wellesley for the leave of absence/resignation as aide de camp.

You're not going to do it, are you? I mean, what will you do other than have people call you Sir George? You could call yourself Captain Sir George Hunter now, if you wanted to.

I was only considering it, to be honest. He can always run away to join the Portuguese or something like that.

I know my character is supposed to be rather strange, but I think that suddenly insisting on being called Captain Sir George Hunter is not going to look normal.

Well you only arrived yesterday (I think). Not everyone has met you yet. They don't know what your character is like, so you can say and do anything you want. Besides, if they have any opinion at all, it's going to be that you're not normal, climbing trees and getting muddy and all that.

Hehe, to be honest it would be weird for him to start using the title because he dislikes having it (well, not being aristocracy per se, but for other reasons).

In fact, you are Captain Sir George Hunter - you are calling yourself, Captain George Hunter... It's like Edrington announcing himself as Major Edrington, then slinging in the "I am, in fact, the Earl of Edrington".

But it works for Edrington (that's why I love him).
