I do not know when this letter is going to find you: I posted it the day after you sailed. I hate myself for having parted with you on such terms. Please forgive me. I know that you yourself have never left me in doubt about your intentions, but all those horrible gossiping people are driving me crazy! Perhaps we should get married, I am an earl's daughter after all! I can see you frowning at me now: don't, I miss you so much that a prospect of marriage simply for the sake of being close to someone who is not blinded by being an aristocrat seems appealing. Oh, God, if this letter falls into wrong hands I will surely be blackmailed. Write to me George as soon as you can.

Dear George,

I hope this letter finds you well. It has been two days since I sent the previous one, but I really need to share this with you: I am quite annoyed on your behalf. Do you remember wondering why you were appointed a ADC to Wellesley? You will not believe me when you read this! It was my father! The old fool got into his head that we are romantically attached and wanting me to be happy and marry someone worthy he decided to allow you to earn glory on the battlefield! If only he'd mentioned it earlier, but no, he wanted it to remain private so you would not feel obliged to him! I guess it was nice of him, but just because he likes Wellesley does not mean that serving for him will do wonders for your career. Oh, well, I guess what is done is done. Perhaps it will turn out for the best, my father thinks that Wellesley is bound to lead the army to glory.
I have seen your mother yesterday: she is quite poorly. I have made sure a good Doctor sees her.
I just realised that my brother is with Wellesley too, I hope the two of you will be friends to each other out there: he needs some good influence. I am afraid he has taken to drink.
