Dear Mother,
I have finally caught up with our army. Can't say I am enjoying this posting. I have met Wellesley briefly: he seemed to hate me on sight and I, of course, behaved as insolently as I could, and so did Firebird. My direct superior, Colonel Brandon seems nice, but somewhat non-existent. God, I want to fight not get sneered at by the General.
How is everything at home? Have you seen Lady Winwood recently?
I am sorry I am not a better correspondent, but I am writing to you while trying to find Wellesley and the prospect puts me in the mood you most particularly hate: I am torn between indignation and amusement. Let us hope the next few days will be better.
