Talavera: A Vote

Right. Latin says to go ahead without her as she won't be back on the board until round about June or July 2014 (that's next year) do to RL stuff taking precedence. (She's pretty surprised we haven't already done Talavera, in fact.)

sans and outis have been RPing a thread, in the AU area, that takes place after Talavera.

Kins wants to wait to RP Talavera until Latin can be back on the board.

I would like to RP Talavera so that we can do some other stuff - like the retreat afterwards to Portugal. Or begin to think about how to realistically play things out so that we're not stuck at one week IC = one year OOC, which is ridiculously slow by anyone's standards. I wouldn't mind not having Talavera at all in our RP Peninsular War if it means that we won't have all the arguments and debates and everything because they just suck all the fun out of RPing a big event.

I don't know what the rest of you would like. Cast your vote - one vote per person ONLY! (OOC accounts preferred for voting. If you only have character accounts, that's fine.) And if there's options I've not included, vote 'something else' and expand in a reply to this thread.

Note: Going ahead, however we do it, will require compromise from some people. I will do my best to include aspects you want, but it is highly, highly unlikely that it will have everything just the way you want - this whole RP thing is an exercise in collaboration with other people, after all.

I suggest starting the (give or take a few days) battle on the day it historically happened on.


Edit: Yes, I know, I'm a noob who never knew Latin. But as has been said, even she was surprised the battle hadn't started yet. There will be other major battles to come that Latin will be here for, like Barrosa. We can't wait forever.

But anyways, that's just my 2 cents.

I should like to point out that to wait to RP Talavera until Latin's return will mean that the next IC week (or three) will have to be stretched out for over one RL year with no guarantee that Latin will come back to the board even after she graduates.

Should we perhaps just say that we will not be playing it now and say we rediscuss in two months?

I would not have a problem to wait a year. We rushed a bit before, and I have several things that could happen before the battle.

I voted but in all honesty I am fine with whichever option is voted upon, I'll have fun however we decide to do it. (Or not do it)

The earliest option given was to play it out in June of this year so as Marashar said we still have a couple months easy to let it rest and then discuss too.

Um, Koenig. Just to check... we're talking about when to start RPing it. (As in, this year, next year, sometime, never... )

If people really do want to wait an OOC year and RP it in 2014, it was a suggestion to push the IC date back to, say, the 14th August 1809 *pulls a dates out of the air* so that we don't have to make a whole IC week stretch a whole OOC year.

I'd like to do Talavera. But if the cost of doing so is board drama, then I don't think it's worth it. If that's the case, I'd say time jump the board to whenever, assume that the battle took place, but not officially play it out. If members want to play out various episodes from the battle/preparations/aftermath, they can do it in the AU section, in this way it will be essentially like RPing character backstory. If folks want to revisit the topic at some point down the road, great, but in the meantime this would allow In Game time to keep on moving forward. I dunno.

To translate my previous post: I think we should start RPing about the time the battle historically happened. In other words, July. This would give us plenty of time to sort things out, and besides, that's when it actually happened.

Oh good. That's what I thought you meant... then realised I wasn't actually sure!

Aiming to start it on or around the actual anniversary might not be a bad idea - it'll give us four months of real-time break to play other stuff. And we can plan out some ideas of incidents we'd like to include - without over-planning the whole thing, which is what killed all the enthusiasm for the current skirmish plot.

(I would like Cotton to be wounded at some point; he's remained remarkably unscathed so far. If it's possibly life-threatening but he could survive with careful nursing, that might be interesting... though I don't want to kill him off - I'm far too attached to him to do that! Though at the snail's pace the game's progressed at so far, that's as good as writing him out of play for the next six years. Meh.)

Yeah, that's the downside of a serious wound in an RPG, most of them go so slow your char is pretty much out of play for real time ages! Don't have an answer for that problem.

Yeah... both my IC sprained ankle and IC concussion actually got better a little too fast to be completely medically accurate for the symptoms they suffered.

If we were allowed two votes, I'd choose 1) play it in 2013 (whichever month), or 2) skip it and move on.
