Historical Universes - A Multigame Historical RPG

Historical Universes is a multi-period, multi-game historical RPG, which means we have multiple role playing games all on one board, all historical! Currently we have 4 games running, and you are welcomed to join one or all four.


The Borgia Game...
set in early 16th century Italy, specifically both Rome and Naples (for now).

Cesare Borgia is to marry Charlotte d'Albret and is named Duc de Valentinois by King Louis XII, giving Rodrigo Borgia, otherwise known as Pope Alexander Sextus, a hold over the north of Italy where it joins with France. Undeterred in his quest to secure the Borgia legacy and produce a more unified Italy, Rodrigo is now parading his daughter to the d'Armagnac, a line of French princes from the lines of Anjou and Navarre, who control the other southern part of France and the Kingdom of Naples. However, the d'Armagnac secretly have no intention of allowing a marriage with a bastard, even a bastard of the Pope. On this backdrop you will find poisonings, courtesans, and scandalous affairs at the Apostolic Palace. Will you be a lady set out to seduce a rich gallant, the daughter of some horrible man, the bastard of a Cardinal, or a young nobleman?

The Tudor Game...
set early within the reign of King Henry VIII where he has never taken a wife.

Catherine of Aragon holds secret ambitions that perhaps Henry will choose her and allow her to stay in England, but those hopes are threatened by Henry's new alliance with France. The Princess Mary will depart in late fall with her entourage in order to marry the Heir Presumptive to the French throne, le duc de Valois. The duke of Buckingham grows as annoyed as the King's aunt Princess Catherine of York over the foolish boy king's playtime and while he remains loyal, he begins to question if the king is truly fit to lead with his common companions surrounding him. Will you be a lady in search of a husband? A young lord in search for a wife and dowry? A girl seeking to make her fortune by trying to become one of the king's mistresses? Will you be a pawn in a political move or denied love? Will you be a sporting young man hoping to gain the king's regard with your prowess? Or will you join some of the discontented old blood nobles in trying to influence the king?

The Charles I Game...
set right before the 2nd Bishops War poised at the precipice of the English Civil War.

King Charles is a righteous king who wishes to be obeyed in all things. He would rather not tarry with government and politics, he would rather his subject simply obey him. After attempting to force a prayerbook on the Scots, the king found himself in a very bad predicament. Domestic discontent and Scottish forces threatening the north of England gave parliament a foothold to make demands on the king once again, withholding money necessary for war in order to force him to give up archaic taxation he had implemented. At the same time, lavish parties and banquets are still in full swing despite the growing discontent. Which side will you fall on: those loyal to the king and loving of their courtly privileges or those opposing the king's behavior and clamoring for reform?

The Charles II Game...
set just when Prince Charles is returned to his kingdom as King Charles II.

Decadence is the order of the hour as theaters are reopened and dancing once again becomes a favoured passtime. Twenty years after our Charles I game, the new King is a rather merry fellow, keen on the ladies, and liberal in his behavior. Courtiers are currying for favour, attempting to display their wit and skills, and playing to those who are the king's closest friends and advisers. A young merry crowd seems to be forming with the king's foster-brother, the duke of Buckingham, at the helm arranging parties and mimicking the somber Hyde. The only blip of sobriety seems to be the impending trials of the regicides who murdered his father. Will you be a budding court wit? An adventuresome lady with a keen mind? A voluptuous tart wishing to seduce a rather willing king? Or perhaps you are lobbying for one of many court positions or are the son or daughter of one of England's premiere families?

Charles I and Charles II: It would give you the opportunity to play your character older and younger if you wish OR you can choose to play a character who is alive in one and not the other if you don't want to play both games.

The Freeplay Games...
set wherever you would like to be!

We have an open, no application freeplay area where you can thread about whatever you wish, even going into historical fantasy. Currently we have Game of Thrones threads there!

The Potential New Games...

Of course, we are also always open to suggestions for new game ideas, so you can feel free to submit those to Wills. Depending on our staffing and activity, you might find us creating your suggestion.

The Game Staff...

Our moderation staff are all experienced RPers and moderators, and they are here to make your experience as wonderful as you want it to be. Our staff will help get you in the game and put forth thread and plot ideas for you.

If you want to join our ranks, HU has a by invitation staff. That means please do not ask us to be on staff. We use a variety of tools to help us decide who might make a good staff member. Chief among those are availablity, activity (we will not have staff who are not active posters), RPing skill level, interpersonal skills, and your record in the HU community. If you aspire to help us out be friendly, active, mature, and always do go RPing! In all likelihood, we will ask you, but it won't happen overnight. The entire staff of this board had been playing together about a year before taking on this venture, so we want to make sure you're a match for us!
