My current character, Henri d'Avout is a dragoon officer who is tasked primarily with searching out and destroying enemy scouts, supplies, raiders, etc. and conducting these operations himself.

The general idea is that he has gotten word of some Portuguese Cazadores (skirmishers), have been operating in the rear of the French lines and they have captured some supplies. They have been traced back to operating in a small village. The Dragoons and an infantry detachment will go, engage this Cazadores in the village and recover the supplies and bring it back to camp. On the way back to camp, the group will have to fend off more cazaddores as they harass and attempt to stop the party from returning with the supplies. Should be an action packed outing. Any takers?

Sounds interesting. Any objection to a combination of Light and Line for the infantry?

If we do go for it, I would suggest possibly setting it in late June/early July so that it won't interfere with the June 12 patrol thread and vice versa (ie. characters wounded in the June 12 thread might still be able to appear in the later thread).

As a writer, I would be up for it. I only run a young French private though and he can't simply go on these things of his own accord, so I would think at least part of his unit would have to be ordered along. I dont know who makes those decisions game wise.

If nothing else I suppose I can run an NPC made up for that particular mission. See what the others think yet first though.

(Agh. Just lost the original post I put up 'cause the network got issues...)

Right; let's try again...

I am trying to get the whole game to skip forward at a suitable point in characters' storylines, so skipping forward to round about the 22nd June for your story will fit in with everyone else skipping forward too.

As for 'who makes those decisions'... it's pretty much up to the people who are going to be taking part in the thread. I'd recommend making Seviere (a private) part of an NPC group of his regiment, simply because (as gfic has said) he's a private and it doesn't make sense for him to go running off of his own accord.

The whole point of RPing is to have fun and enjoy yourselves, so as long as you're having fun, that's the main thing, from my POV!

Are you allowing for Line as well as Light infantry? Or only Light?

But not characters who are in Food for Thought, right? Have they disappeared or someting a week ago and the Engaging the Locals people are hoping to meet up with them? I get easily confused.

Yep. As soon as the thread moves a day or so out of camp, they are supposed to meet up.

*still finds it strange to discuss movements of the French under Horseguard orders* French

Uhm, it seems like d'Avout's player doesn't want to continue this thread, so perhaps we should discuss how we want it to go on - just a bit more discussion and the actual action off-screen, making d'Avout an NPC or Beuret more or less taking over until/unless d'Avout's player wants to take command again? Other ideas?

I'm open for anything!

So is his player dropping out of the game? If so, make D'Avout an NPC. And the sooner the two groups link up, the better IMHO. Very Happy

I think Sharpie needs to weigh in here. I think it might go against etiquette to take over a former player's original character as a NPC without express permission, but I don't know if we have actual rules. I think in the past we've just acted like that character went off and continued doing stuff but we didn't actually write him/her as a character anymore.

Maybe someone could announce that D'Avout had been called away to something else off-screen and left someone else in charge?
