Character Info
Canon/Original: Original
First Name(s): Samuel
Surname: Hollamby
Nicknames:
Age: 20
Sex: M
Place of Birth: Sudbury, Suffolk
Occupation: son of blacksmith, private in 33rd Regiment of Foot
Family: A son of a blacksmith, with five siblings. One Girl. He is second to youngest.
Description:
An average built man of dark brown hair, curling a little at the ends. His eyes are gray brown. There is little that would make him stand out from the crowd. His face is of a slightly oval shape, but quite common in looks. He dislikes being singled out, and prefers to keep to his own business. He follows orders simply because it is easiest, requires no thinking and is what is required of him anyway.
He likes drink as much as any other. Believing that life could be worse, his outlook on it is quite positive. If anything on the march the air is much cleaner and everything much quieter. When the looting is possible, life of course is much better, but even just finding some meat on a dead Frenchman, can suffice for a day or two.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
Strengths:
- Sturdy, used to hard work.
- Fast runner.
- Immitates animal calls rather well. It has fooled the cavalry, with their horses before.
- A friendly personality, glad to help out when needed.
Weaknesses:
- A slight impairment of hearing, meaning that he is not the best person to overhear whispering conversations.
- Clumsy. He may be fast on his feet, but he is rather capable of tripping over them or not noticing a branch until it is too late.
- Likes to sing but is rather off tune. Due to being a loud singer it might be good for the company to be sufficiently drunk not to mind.
- Guilable, easy to convince into doing something, even if it is stupid.
Background: Born to a blacksmith he was often found in his father's smithy. He liked to watch and help, but the constant exposure to the loud sounds took its toll on his hearing. While being second last, not much was expected of him, and his future was not yet set in stone. When not in the smithy he spent his time chasing after the neighbour's hens, chugging stones into the local well, untill they were told off and given a good trashing, of climbing trees especially the ones that had fruit on it and sometimes of just watching cows grazing out in the field.
His reason for joining was not that of a man having committed a crime, nor of one having been too poor and finding solace and food in the army. Rather it had been of following a group of his childhood companions, who had thought it a grand adventure. All but one of those friends are now dead.
Even though his reason for joining is almost gone, he has adapted to the life quite well and does not think it half bad. His mother might have thought it hasty decision while his father thought little of it and considered it just a path one of his sons had taken. Neither of them expect him to return, knowing full well the many stories of lost men. While caring for their child, his depature did mean one less mouth to feed and a possible income for as long as he might remain alive.
Anything Else: Don't think so.
Writing Sample/Past Roleplay: Done.
