Camp - first night

"Just 'memberin' some stuff from last year. Nothin' for you to worry about." He sighed a little, cupping his hands around the mug and raising it to inhale the steam. "I think she was a bit tired from the march, an' all, too."

"Oh." That made sense. Everyone here had memories. Even if the women didn't fight alongside, they still saw the aftermath. They must be really brave, those women. Sitting back and waiting and watching would probably be even more frightening than the actual battle. Usually the excitement and the rush of it all carried him through. It was only when you stopped to think too much that you got scared at all, and usually there wasn't time for doing that. But the women, they'd be stuck with thinking about things all the time. "I don't really... Women..." He squinted, pondering. "They confuse me sometimes, but I think maybe they think too much."

"They confuse me an' all, Ben. I reckon you're right; they think too much." He shrugged. "Well, either that, or they don't think at all. An' they get all teary about stuff nobody can do anythin' about."

He hoped he'd been able to help Maggie, even a little bit. And maybe tomorrow would be easier for her.
