Appearance Handsome, cold and impenetrable, he has dark blonde hair and dark blue eyes, so dark that they may be mistaken for black when there is little light. A long straight nose accents a rather pouty mouth, all who have seen the Viscount agree that he is very handsome, although his face is stoic and hardly would give any emotion. He is very tall, at over six feet, and always wears dark, elegant styles of the Regency era rather than the foppish mannerisms of 18th century.

Personality traits He is cold, calm and reticent to most, so much so that Napoleon’s plenipotentiary described him as “passionless” and Cornwallis wrote that he was “so cold that nothing can warm him”. He is the complete opposite of Charles in every respect, confined to reason and balance, a thoroughly conservative, pragmatic and fair man who devotes himself to work almost religiously, he is a paragon of middle class virtue. There is dignity that followed him wherever he went, despite his lack of ribbons. He was the one that bent the rules and sent Sir Arthur to command the force in the Iberian in 1808. However, in private and to those that know him best, he is very lively and charming.
