Description:
Tobias is tall and lanky with dirty blonde hair and light brown eyes. His skin is tanned and slightly weathered from years of working at sea. His hands reflect this as well, being rather scarred and calloused. Additionally, he has a long scar from his left shoulder, down his ribs, to his left hip due to a childhood accident. He had caught his foot in the rope connected to one of the fishing nets, and was dragged down the side of the boat. Despite the severity of the injury (which no one had expected him to survive), Tobias was left with very little in the way of permanent damage - mostly the scar, and a stiffness in his left hip when cold.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
Tobias is a hard worker, and is likely more comfortable at sea than on land. He tends to be rather taciturn, which reads to many on first meeting as being unfriendly. On further acquaintance he is a fairly kind and well-meaning man. Like most sailors, he is uneducated and has a tendency towards drinking too much when the opportunity presents itself.
Background:
Tobias was the middle of three sons of a Bridlington fisherman. His father was a kind hearted man, if often drunk, and Tobias was greatly fond of him. His mother was a large, mostly cheerful woman who believed in discipline. Their small home was always clean and orderly, and worth being proud of despite the relative poverty of the family. All three boys learned early to sail and fish, and followed in their father's footsteps.

When he was 17, Tobias married Anne Beaman. Not long after (indeed, rather less time than was likely proper), their son Caleb was born. A few years later, they had twin daughters - Hattie and Lottie. His younger brother Jack also lived with Tobias and his wife. The two brothers worked together to catch and sell fish, and did fairly well for themselves.

In 1803, Tobias was impressed into the service.

Writing Sample/Past Roleplay:
"Papa! Papa!" Two small girls came running out of the house as Tobias and Jack made their way up the small path.

"Oof!" Tobias said, as they collided with him, each grabbing onto one of his legs and loudly clamouring for his attention. "Woah, there, lasses," he said, exchanging amused glances with his brother. "One at a time. Ev'rythin' alrate?"

The girls pulled back, and exchanged grins.

"Nowt's tha matter, Papa," Hattie said. "'S a good then', realleh."

"Aye!" Lottie agreed, bouncing on her toes. "Bu' Mam says 's a s'prise."

"Then p'raps tha shouldn' be tellin' me." He chuckled at the sudden crestfallen look on Lottie's face, and the more sullen one on Hattie's. "Nor, don' sulk a' me. Le's go in, an' see this surprise, aye?"
