Domestic Felicity

Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is one of the greatest love stories of all time, because the hero and heroine don't die at the end, and everyone gets what they deserve. All the plot holes are wrapped up quite nicely, and everyone lives happily ever after, right? Well, perhaps. That's where we come in.

Mr. and Mrs. Darcy, Mr. and Mrs. Bingley, Mr. and Mrs. Wickham, and Mr. and Mrs. Collins all have settled down nicely into their country estates, more or less. The Bingleys are as happy and gentle as ever; the Darcys have a grand time (Elizabeth teases, and Fitzwilliam tolerates) at Pemberley with Georgianna; the Collinses are expecting a baby and are as content and grateful as ever; and the Wickhams... well, their domestic felicity is not quite what it was hoped to be, but for all of the moving around they have been doing, things are going as well as can be expected. Mrs. Bennet misses her daughters terribly, and Mr. Bennet never has a moment of peace, for she is as worried as ever. Mary has gotten into society a bit more now that she is no longer in the shadow of her older sisters, and Kitty has been greatly improved by the influence of her older sisters and is looking to get married herself.

There are others though, outsiders, who may threaten the balance of happiness. Caroline Bingley, though seemingly softened by the fact that her brother and the man she wished to marry have both settled down with her enemies, is not giving up yet. Lady Catherine de Bourgh is unlikely to forgive her nephew or his wife for the fact that they spurned her sickly daughter. Debts plague one couple, old habits another, and illness still another. To top it all off, war looms on the horizon, and the militiamen who once marched gaily through the town are no longer kept around just for fun. Meryton is no longer so merry. Despite all of this, the love shared between some of these couples still goes strong. Will the trials to come strengthen them, or tear them apart? Find out at
