An Unexpected Visit

Wellesley raised an amused eyebrow at that.

"Very original," he said, wondering what must have been going through the young captain's mind when he selected those particular words. Had he been a devout follower of the late admiral, for all he held an army commission?

He returned Vickery's salute.

"Carry on, captain."

Vickery noticed Wellesley's eyebrow quirk at the password, obviously intrigued. In truth, there had been nothing more to it than overhearing his lieutenants discussing Admiral Lord Nelson's tactics at that battle, and comparing them to the attack of a French column on land, with the complete opposite result: the line was broken and the British fleet won the battle.

He saluted and stepped back to give the General room to spur his horse on. "Thank you, sir."

Kicking back his heels Sir Arthur spurred Hercules into a trot, moving onwards past the resting green men and further forward towards enemy lines.
