27th May; Jenny and Pye

Pye watched them a while longer and then slowly turned on his heel. He glanced over his shoulder, saw the two women together and then went into step. He could return to the place where he had left the sack or else head to the wagon. Did he conceal the sack well enough? Surely they could not discover it, covered as it was in mud and grass and an occasional bit of bush. If the man already awoke they might head in search of the culprit, and returning to the scene of the crime might not be the best option any had ever made.

Instead he had gone, silently as when he took possession of things that did not belong him. Had washed his hands again, thoroughly scrubbed and hoped that no tar remained behind, less so on the cuffs of his coat. He could not see it well now, as it was dark being it was night. But tomorrow he would. He returned silently and made his way towards the surgeon's wagon. There upon arrival he only meant to find a space to sleep, warm, perchance somewhat dryer, and peaceful.
