The Chosen Men
As des Sablieres has posted about his men, I thought it was only fair to post about Sharpe's Chosen Men.
Sergeant Harper (PC): Irish, from Donegal. More info here
Rifleman Hagman (PC): English, from Cheshire. More info here
Rifleman Harris (PC):
(On the left) English. Harris is the educated one, a former school-teacher whose downfall was love of the drink. He has red hair and a lugubrious expression. He is the only one who knows what his first name is.
Rifleman Ben Perkins (PC):
English. Born and brought up in the army, Perkins is the youngest of Sharpe's men and is very eager. He has brown, curly hair and an open expression.
Rifleman Francis Cooper: (NPC at the moment - player wanted!)
English, from Shoreditch. Cooper's former trade was such that it gave him useful skills with a pick-lock, which he still has. He has dark hair and a dry sense of humour.
If we get players for these, I will change these summaries to link to the character summaries. If you want to play an OC who is part of Sharpe's group left behind after the retreat, feel free to reply to this post with a link to your character's profile.

Re: The Chosen Men
I am going to volunteer for Harris. I know that technically I'm fully occupied, but as a retired woman of remarkably lazy disposition, I think I could manage an extra character. I do tend to post fairly regularly on mine. I would have suggested it sooner, but Raoul needed all my attention, poor lamb.
The disadvatage is that I have forgotten all I knew about Sharpe's men. His women stick in my mind irritatingly. Although I will go and bag some canon (books or DVDs - or both) I could probably manage an educated soldier with drink as his downfall, for the moment. I am always open to correction.
If I were Harris, then random Chosen Men dropping in could say hello and we could talk, or they could talk and I could read a book or something while not really listening, and if they were on line, then someone else might join in...

Re: The Chosen Men
For book canon Harris, you want Battle, Havoc or Fury. I think those are the ones which show him best; and don't forget the Chosen Men as we know them were invented for the TV mini-series, so did not show up in any book written before 1995, when Battle came out.
And yes, I think you could cope with playing Harris as well... maybe I'm the only person here who thinks she'd have problems with more than four characters. Hmm...

Re: The Chosen Men
I was expecting that there wouldn't be much overlap with the characters, particularly if the Chosen Men go off to do their own Chosen things. Only Raoul and Edrington should meet, in that case - well, maybe Peter/Edrington in the up-coming battle, but that would be short.
Not working, and being very lazy about housework, gardening, shopping, means that I used to spend my time watching Countdown and reading. This is much better.

Re: The Chosen Men
I've registered - obviously. Is "Chosen Men" here used in its technical term, or just as a term for Sharpe's favourites and the characters with a contract for the season ?
Are the other 30-odd all plain Riflemen?

Re: The Chosen Men
Yeek. Um. Sharpe's dragged thirty-seven men down to Lisbon from the disastrous retreat to Corunna, but the only men of his that have shown up so far are the 'Chosen Men' of the TV series.
Originally a Chosen Man (as you probably know) was what we now call a Lance Corporal. He was still a private soldier, but took charge of the squad when the Corporal wasn't there, and was next in line to be considered for promotion.
I think here, the term applies to those men that Sharpe knows and trusts. I'm not ruling out possibly gaining some OC Riflemen (hopefully - if we get more members, anything's possible!) and adding them to the group of 'Chosen Men' we currently have.

Re: The Chosen Men
"A whole gang of ringleaders" would not work unless you split them up among the other 30 to be lance-corps there. In fact, you don't have a Corporal at all - I suppose he's not a speaking part. So they are more representatives of all the others
As the 62nd consists solely of a Colonel, one Major and an invisible QM, and Vickery's company has a Captain and two named Riflemen, Sharpe's men are rather more healthily represented.
