- A year has passed since the death of King Riane of England. Though Victorian society and etiquette dictate otherwise, the remainder of the royal family is no longer in mourning, for England as a whole has a new problem on their hands--they must find a king, and they must find one fast.
You see, with the King Riane's death, the royal family that has been ruling England for the past three centuries is dead. The only survivor of the family name is the King's mother--but she is far too old to be once more on the throne--that, and she cannot bear children. But, the Dowager Queen has concocted a plan--one that will bring all of England together, surely.
There are eight noble houses and three feared gypsy factions in England. The Dowager Queen has invited a candidate for the throne from each house and faction; though the latter decision has raised eyebrows, as the gypsies are feared for their rumored magic and their eccentric, nomadic ways. But competitions amongst the wealthy and privileged were never honest ones--there is sure to be trickery, bribery, seduction, and murder...
Meanwhile, nobles put blame on either France or Spain for the King's murder. Little do they know that England's and France's peace--which has lasted for the past five decades--is as fragile as ever--and that France itself is plotting England's downfall. It is a dangerous time... yet everyone flocks to London, if only in hopes of M A K I N G H I S T O R Y.
