What would you do if you were placed into an arena with twenty-three other teens, given weapons and supplies, and told to kill each other until only one was left? How would you react? This may only be a question to you. But this is reality to us.
It's nearing time for the yearly Hunger Games. What are the Games, you might ask? 146 years ago, the poor districts of Panem rebelled against the powerful Capitol. When the districts lost, the Capitol created the Hunger Games to keep the districts in line. The rules of the Games are simple. A boy and a girl from each of the 12 districts of Panem would be sent into an outdoor arena as tributes to kill each other on live television until there's one tribute left.
The Hunger Games have gradually became a part of district life. The time for rebellion has come and gone. Over the years, the districts have begun to send their tributes off to be killed without even a thought. It's the same every year. The careers win, the other kids die. There's an arena filled with scary deadly traps. There are hours of entertaining clips of children dying. The games have even started to loose their spark in the Capitol. But the children of Panem have grown weary of watching their friends die year after year, and they're doing something about it. More of the poorer districts are training for the games just like the careers. And they're winning. The districts have once again started a chain reaction that might ignite the long-awaited rebellion and finally end the brutal games, or the chance could die off like the rest.
What would have happened if the names Primrose Everdeen and Peeta Mellark were never selected from the big reaping ball? What if two ordinary district 12 tributes entered the 74th hunger game and left, as usual, in a tiny child-size coffin? What would have happened if the rebellion against the capitol was never ignited?
