*coughs delicately* Because a lady was present, and such behaviour might be seen as boarish.

I would think it's 'er heart that is to value. 'er loyalty, trueness. If I'm to choose from t' three I would say beauty.. but t' one from inside. *shrugs* But.. is no other sort of women that'd think to meet me, anyway.

Re: Ask a question; pass it on (3)
Dirty, crude, annoying lot of men, to be honest. And hopeless and hapless lubbers, too. Although I do suppose they're similar in some ways to a tar.

Re: Ask a question; pass it on (3)
Sailors are as nimble as monkeys, strong as oxen, and sing a lot. Although their language does seem to be a bit..... colourful.

That depends on the woman, I think.

Re: Ask a question; pass it on (3)
I am afraid I have not. My uncle considered the Lady Patronesses as.... as 'a bunch of old pea-hens'. His words, not mine. And I am afraid I would not be considered elegant enough for their society.

Re: Ask a question; pass it on (3)
No, most certainly not - and neither should you, my dear. It is we who determine our own fate, except in those rare moments when the Hand of Providence does, occassionally, intervene.

Re: Ask a question; pass it on (3)
*snorts* No, I don't. I've known a fair few who, while not outright despise Society in its entirety, certainly dislike it. And I'm fair certain they've not a whit of envy for it.

Re: Ask a question; pass it on (3)
Girls have no place in the Navy! They'd only cause trouble and arguments n' bad luck! T' army 'as hem lots, but as women.. not goin' off pretendin' to be men. It'd be sort o' ..weird!

Why, are you hiding a lass as one of your crew?
Re: Ask a question; pass it on (3)
*pointed look* Highly doubtful, as a 'lass' would be easy to spot, being sure to make regular acquaintance with soap and water..... something of which *sniffs* I'm sure your crew has not.

Re: Ask a question; pass it on (3)
Our crew finds the soap and cleaningness by far of greater importance than the people on land do, miss! And you might find that we have not all died of disease which... *grumbles and bites his tongue* ..It is the nature of a lass.. to stir trouble amongst men. Have you not heard of duels? They are fought not for a man's pleasure, I assure you.

Re: Ask a question; pass it on (3)
Well I've heard you take some of them with you on campaign or what you call it. Then there's all those lasses you find in the towns n' villages or just on the way. It's much easier for them to follow on foot, than swim after a ship! Just heard there's plenty, and maybe saw a few. *shrugs*

If I were to go against all morality, against law and against common decency -- and even against my own nature -- and contemplate such a horror, I know of several plants and herbs that could do the deed.
