Wellesley is only a Sepoy General who has yet to prove himself in Europe. Bonaparte has shown already how capable he is...

Will the war be won at sea or on land?

Well, as a cavalryman I'd obviously say cavalry, and light cavalry at that, but as a soldier who does want to win... for a real success in battle you need all three arms working together. And the intelligence to place them.

A friend of mine actually thinks that cavalry is the least important arm. Do you agree?

Well, it does have more of a tendancy to go... awry, as they say, more than the other two. Especially the English Cavalry.

Has the Artillery ever appealed to you?

What do you think of Congreve's rockets?

I wish the bloody fool had never invented them.

Does the sight of an enemy superior in numbers ever seriously disconcert you?

No sir, it just means even more Frenchmen will die that day.

speaking once more of artillery would you say gunners of the Artillery Corps are better trained and skilled or those of His Majesties Navy?

Bit o' both. I chose to 'list in the Marines 'cause I knew I'd get pressed if I didn't.

Who's the person you admire most, an' why?

Don't know. *shrugs* ..no, wait. Think it's Mister Vickery, sir. *nods* Because o' how he is, very good officer!

Do you only see bad in people no matter their actions?

No, .. uh.. *not sure whether to call sir or not.*

Do you talk first, judge later, or judge first, and talk later to see how right your judgement was?

I think first - I find it best to weigh up the facts and options before either talking or deciding.

Do you prefer to tell stories, or to listen to the stories told by others?

Listen. *nods* T' way to learn too.

Do you prefer a dry and hot land with not a drop of water , or a land where you are nearly swimming half of the time and are wet to the bone?

What I would truly prefer is a moderate climate, with reliable precipitation and warm, but not hot, summers and cool, but not cold, winters. Well, a bit of ice and snow are permitted at Christmas, elegant ice skating does impress the Ladies...

Would you want to be garrisoned in the West Indies?

I doubt such a position would come up, but no less, I will prefer to remain on the continent to fight the enemy.

Alive? Yes.

Why should people who have done nothing but been born into a position have the right to rule us, when there are those who have not the birth right, but the natural quality for it?

Kids? Oh you mean ship boys? ..They have their uses. They're small ain't they. Less of body to be in the way, and quick to bring gun powder when it counts. I think they are very useful.

There are children in the army too? What are they used for?

Well, there are regiments who have young lads as drummer boys. Joe Cavender, the bugler in my Company, is about your age, I believe.

Do you have a favourite quote from someone, and if so, what is it?

I do. Several. But none comes to mind presently. Hmm. If one ponders on history, then this one seems quite intersting : "All the ancient histories, as one of our wits say, are just fables that have been agreed upon." As history that we make to this day and onward will remain at dosposal to the interpretation and of argument certainly.

Can one write a book of a certain battle, without ever being there and expect himself fully accurate? Can one, who had been there?
