Re: OPORTO, 22nd May - Barca d’Avintas
Willoughby felt the corner of his mouth twitch upwards as he heard Javert call to their officer. Amused by the insult, he barely contained the feeling from showing on his face. A cheeky bastard, that corporal, yet hat thought was accompanied with recognition rather than insult. Perhaps the Frenchman wasn't all bad, even if he had left him and a rifleman in a rather.... he was better not to think of that now, least begin harbouring ill feeling towards the man again.
He rode his horse with an easy gait and a smooth motion, negotiating the terrain with care. Both the dead bodies left after the battle, as also the stones and mud that could make a horse slip. He would possibly have been of more use to remain with Javert, where he could speak French, however he doubted that the lieutenant either knew that, or cared much for the comfort of their enemy.
++
Kenley observed Javert. It looked as if the man, with his grave injuries and infection, had finally passed. He perhaps did not understand anything that the Frenchman said, but could gather enough that he voiced his displeasure at the officer that just left. He leaned against his horse a little and turned to look at the sky. Then averting his gaze back to their 'able to walk' prisoner he shifted somewhat impatiently.
Perhaps give him a bit more time? "... Excuse me, but.. you, tied, as ordered. " He tried to speak so slow that even one that did not speak his language could understand. Atleast that was his conviction, that such a feat would be possible.

Javert turned around, all defiance having departed from the corporal with Fabier's spirit, and rested his weary gaze on the cavalryman left, who was trying to tell him something. Javert sighed. Why did the English always think that saying something loudly and slowly enough would make them understood? It really did not help.
"No speak English," he said again, too tired of this farce even to try and understand. He could run now, he supposed; he could easily overpower this one man and take his horse. But where would he run to? He was too far behind now, and a whole load of cavalry lay between him and the rear of his army. No, better to stay here and sit it out. At least he would probably get a meal of some sort tonight...

"Ah well.. rope, 'ere." Kenley held the piece of cord and placed it to his own chest as if to indicate what he was to do to Javert. "Orders." He added wondering if the man would understand it, or if he would atleast be willing enough to cooperate. He took a step closer to him then, his fellow of the Hussars having just finished securing his horse to the cart. He looked none to happy that he was to walk, when others might right to battle or plunder.
Perhaps the idea that an officer was with them, soothed his mind, for he doubted that anything but prime behavour would then be demanded.
"Hurry up with him, Kenley.." The man spoke, a bit annoyed. "We don't need to talk him into doing it.., he ain't a lass."
