Dear mam and dad and family,
I'm in hopes you are all right. I'm sorry I couldn't say it before, but I joined the army because I couldn't find any work. I am in the 60th Rifles in Portugal, and I'm servant to my company officer. I like it right well.
I hope you are all in good health. I miss you. A friend wrote this letter for me, and I hope you will find someone to read it to you.
