Reenactment
I know this subject has come up multiple times in the chat-box, so, not seeing another one, I have decided to make a dedicated topic for this.
So feel free to discuss anything about the hobby. All periods, Napoleonic Wars, WWII, American Civil War, any period.
I'd also like to keep a list of anyone that does reenacting, and what impression(s) they have. If you want, feel free to post yours!
Reenactors:
Koenig: WWII - 30th Infantry Division (US)
Casper: NW - Pupilles de la Garde
Sharpie: NW - 50th Regiment of Foot
So to get us started, who wants to go to Waterloo 200? And what will you be portraying? Or you will you just be spectating?
I would love to go, not certain yet, and still looking for a unit to join/portray.

Re: Reenactment
Regiment de Pupilles de la garde (la (le?) garde de Roi de Rome).
Some kind of ULTRA young guard. In 1813, the 7th Tirailleurs was formed from their ranks, and we have reason to believe the 8th and 9th were too. One of the last battalions actually defended a gate in Paris, and refused to retreat after the surrender, crying out they wanted to 'fire just one more shot'.
In 1815, many Pupilles found themselves (some 400+) in Dutch regiments as the 18th and 27th Jagers, fighting AGAINST Napoleon. Back at ya, boney!
No idea what I'll be at Waterloo...My re-enactment group is in somewhat of a crisis

Re: Reenactment
I am not one but I know a sizeable number of our membership are into reenactments also. A number of my friends are American Civil War reenactors here and one of them was involved this fall in a large gathering to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam.
Here is a nice clip of it (sadly my buddy can't find himself in it). What is striking is the early morning fog then all the thick smoke from firing muskets and cannon which really obscures the battlefield.
Plus another thing, these guys made a real attempt to show the horrors of a battle also, the men getting hit and in agony with wounds, the piles of dead when it was over. Very striking. I wonder if we, in the rpg, sometimes forget how awful fighting must have been. Something to think about as we prepare to write the Bridge (or deBridging) storyline and then of course Talavera also.
Oops, almost forgot the clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAt5O8ax0l0
